Meeting at the Resurrection

They know but the outer (things) in the life of this world: but of the End of things they are heedless.

Do they not reflect in their own minds? Not but for just ends & for a term appointed, did Allah create the heavens & the earth, & all between them: yet are there truly many among men who deny the meeting with their Lord (at the Resurrection)!

Do they not travel through the earth, & see what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength: they tilled the soil & populated it in greater numbers than these have done: there came to them their messengers with Clear (Signs). (Which they rejected, to their own destruction): It was not Allah Who wronged them, but they wronged their own souls. [30:7-9]

To Him belongs every being

Among His Signs in this, that He created you from dust; & then,- behold, ye are men scattered (far & wide)!

And among His Signs is this, that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that ye may dwell in tranquillity with them, & He has put love & mercy between your (hearts): verily in that are Signs for those who reflect.

And among His Signs is the creation of the heavens & the earth, & the variations in your languages & your colours: verily in that are Signs for those who know.

And among His Signs is the sleep that ye take by night & by day, & the quest that ye (make for livelihood) out of His Bounty: verily in that are signs for those who hearken.

And among His Signs, He shows you the lightning, by way both of fear & of hope, & He sends down rain from the sky & with it gives life to the earth after it is dead: verily in that are Signs for those who are wise.

And among His Signs is this, that heaven & earth stand by His Command: then when He calls you, by a single call, from the earth, behold, ye (straightway) come forth.

To Him belongs every being that is in the heavens & on earth: all are devoutly obedient to Him. [30:20-26]

LORD gives life to the men who are dead

It is Allah Who sends the Winds, & they raise the Clouds: then does He spread them in the sky as He wills, & break them into fragments, until thou seest rain-drops issue from the midst thereof: then when He has made them reach such of his servants as He wills behold, they do rejoice!-

Even though, before they received (the rain) – just before this – they were dumb with despair!

Then contemplate (O man!) the memorials of Allah’s Mercy!- how He gives life to the earth after its death: verily the same will give life to the men who are dead: for He has power over all things. [30:48-50]

The promise of LORD is true

For those who believe & work righteous deeds, there will be Gardens of Bliss,-
To dwell therein. The promise of Allah is true: & He is Exalted in Power, Wise.

He created the heavens without any pillars that ye can see; He set on the earth mountains standing firm, lest it should shake with you; & He scattered through it beasts of all kinds. We send down rain from the sky, & produce on the earth every kind of noble creature, in pairs. [31:8-10]

The believers

“The believers must (eventually) win through,-

Those who humble themselves in their prayers;

Who avoid vain talk;

Who are active in deeds of charity;

Who abstain from sex,

Except with those joined to them in the marriage bond, or (the captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (in their case) they are free from blame,

But those whose desires exceed those limits are transgressors;-

Those who faithfully observe their trusts & their covenants;

And who (strictly) guard their prayers;-

These will be the heirs,

Who will inherit Paradise: they will dwell therein (for ever).” [23:1-11]

Book of Wisdom

“A.L.R. These are the ayats of the Book of Wisdom.

Is it a matter of wonderment to men that We have sent Our inspiration to a man from among themselves?- that he should warn mankind (of their danger), & give the good news to the Believers that they have before their Lord the lofty rank of truth. (But) say the Unbelievers: “This is indeed an evident sorcerer!”

Verily your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens & the earth in six days, & is firmly established on the throne (of authority), regulating & governing all things. No intercessor (can plead with Him) except after His leave (hath been obtained). This is Allah your Lord; Him therefore serve ye: will ye not receive admonition?

To Him will be your return- of all of you. The promise of Allah is true & sure. It is He Who beginneth the process of creation, & repeateth it, that He may reward with justice those who believe & work righteousness; but those who reject Him will have draughts of boiling fluids, & a penalty grievous, because they did reject Him.

It is He Who made the sun to be a shining glory & the moon to be a light (of beauty), & measured out stages for her; that ye might know the number of years & the count (of time). Nowise did Allah create this but in truth & righteousness. (Thus) doth He explain His Signs in detail, for those who understand.

Verily, in the alternation of the night & the day, & in all that Allah hath created, in the heavens & the earth, are signs for those who fear Him.” [10:1-6]

Things Far better than those who love of things they covet: Women & sons ….

“Fair in the eyes of men is the love of things they covet: Women & sons; Heaped-up hoards of gold & silver; horses branded (for blood & excellence); & (wealth of) cattle & well-tilled land. Such are the possessions of this world’s life; but in nearness to Allah is the best of the goals (To return to).

Say: Shall I give you glad tidings of things Far better than those? For the righteous are Gardens in nearness to their Lord, with rivers flowing beneath; therein is their eternal home; with companions pure (& holy); & the good pleasure of Allah. For in Allah’s sight are (all) His servants,-

(Namely), those who say: “Our Lord! we have indeed believed: forgive us, then, our sins, & save us from the agony of the Fire;”-

Those who show patience, Firmness & self-control; who are true (in word & deed); who worship devoutly; who spend (in the way of Allah); & who pray for forgiveness in the early hours of the morning.

There is no god but He: That is the witness of Allah, His angels, & those endued with knowledge, standing firm on justice. There is no god but He, the Exalted in Power, the Wise.” [3:14-18]

Birds, held poised in the midst of (the air &) the sky? Signs for those who believe!

“There is not an animal (that lives) on the earth, nor a being that flies on its wings, but (forms part of) communities like you. Nothing have we omitted from the Book, & they (all) shall be gathered to their Lord in the end.” [6:38]

“Do they not look at the birds, held poised in the midst of (the air &) the sky? Nothing holds them up but (the power of) Allah. Verily in this are signs for those who believe.” [16:79]

“And the birds gathered (in assemblies): all with him did turn (to Allah).” [38:19]

“Do they not observe the birds above them, spreading their wings & folding them in? None can uphold them except (Allah) Most Gracious: Truly (Allah) Most Gracious: Truly it is He that watches over all things.” [67:19]

I was in Brackendale, just north of Squamish, for a couple of days in December. Every year thousands of Bald Eagles congregate in this area along the banks of the Squamish River. There are three separate salmon spawning runs that overlap between November and February that result in dead and dying salmon littering the rocky shoreline. The easy dining is a draw for eagles, seagulls as well as the occasional otter and seal (which in turn are quite the draw for photographers as it turns out!) I was there for the Bald Eagles and was not disappointed in any way. The first day was spent along the berm, that serves as a main viewing point, a bit further upriver in an eddy where a particularly cool eagle was hanging out.
